Hey all.
Just thought I'd add another game to help the fun here at the masque. So say hello to Name That Tune ;D
The rules are simple.Someone put's a Line from any song and people have to guess what the song is and from which band.Whoever gets it right 1st then choses the next song etc.
So I'll start things off with.
"Ever since I was a Young boy I played the Silver Ball"
Best of luck .
-
Ah always welcome to new games. Since this one needs to be seen for the last person to reply to say if someone is right so that person can give the next line, I made this a sticky topic to easily see this.
I'll guess it's Pinball Wizard by the Who.
-
Correctomondo Haru.Your turn now and yep whoever puts the song let people know when they've got the answer.
-
Yay cool! Loved the song!
Here's the next line to guess on!
"And you remember the jingles used to go..."
-
Mr. Bojangles by America?
-
Sorry DTM, good try but not correct. OK Next guess is up!
-
Is it Video killed the radio star? But if it is i havn't a clue who sang it
jane xx
-
Good enough I say! It is indeed Video Killed the Radio Star by the Bangles.
WB Janey to the forums! Your turn to give a line for the game!
-
And the papers want to know who's shirts you wear
Exact title please
good luck xx
-
Ya know I am soooo tempted to google the lyrics in this game! But will resist the urge to cheat.
Sounds like a Beatles song. Do I get partial credit? Presuming that is even correct? ;D
-
Space Oddity by David Bowie.
-
Andy, Hows things?
Correct with Space Oddity
The stage is all yours.....
Jane xx
-
Things are a bit to quiet Janey apart from that I'm good.
Onto the next song line.
"I've got a message from the Action man,I'm happy hope your happy too".
Best of luck everyone.
-
Andy this has been driving me mad. I knew it was David Bowie but couldnt think of the song, I got it when i was looking through my DVD's and came across the collection of the BBC series "Ashes to Ashes" and of course this is played at the beginning of the show.
So there is my rejoiner...David Bowie "Ashes to Ashes"
well?
xx
-
Your absolutly right janey.Ashes to Ashes by David Bowie it is.
Your turn to give the next lyric ;D
-
ok here's one from another famous English group....good luck
I laid a divorcee in New York City
I had to put up some kind for a fight
-
Is it: Rolling Stones, Honky Tonk Women?
-
Spot on luvsev...your turn...
-
Anyone know this tune? Was popular years ago.
Like Sting I'm tantric
Like snickers, guaranteed to satisfy.
-
Man I suck at this game. And sooo tempted to google.
*ponders*
Sounds kind of rappish though....
LL Cool J? *grins*
-
Nope. Try again. This song is kind of rappish, but with a twist.
-
See? This game without Google is brutal!
Sort of rappish? With a twist? No clue at all! *mutters*
Is it by Shaq? He sort of wants to be rappish? *grins*
-
Nope, not Shaq. Think kind of geeky band from the late 90's. This game is difficult, but it's wickedly fun.
-
Hmmm Even if I get the group I will have no clue what the song is....
Geeky and 90's. *ponders* Well the band was geeky but the lead singer was hot I think....
The DaVinyls?
-
Tee hee, nope. =)
-
Oh I blew that one! *shakes my head*
I was actually thinking of Deee-lite! Not the divinyls. Geesh!
-
Not them either.
-
Is it Walk this Way by Aerosmith (the rap version if I recall right)?
-
Nope. Sorry, try again.
-
I'll try I'm gonna knock you out by LL Cool J
-
Nope. I'll solve this now. Not LL Cool J. If this helps: Think late 90's around the same time as Smashmouth.
-
I finally cheated.
Barenaked ladies - One week!
Although I will wait for confirmation. *grins*
-
Yep! Your turn, DTM
-
Nothing like cheating to win! Woot!
Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation
-
Is it Overkill, by Colin Hay band (not too sure on the spelling of that)
-
Excellent job luvsev! What a bright one you are. *grins*
And these days it's just Colin Hay.
Your turn again.
-
I am just a lover... wait, that should be music lover.
twenty-five years ago, they spoke out and they broke out
of recession and oppression and together they toked
-
Is it Pinball Wizard by the Who?
-
No, it isn't.
-
Is it the Wall by Pink Floyd?
-
Nope, sorry.
-
Two out of three ain't bad? - Meatloaf!
-
No, it's not. Try again.
-
Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel?
(By the way I remade this a sticky topic since it's the only game you need to see right away on page one since it relies on answering each time a guess is made or to say if one is correct or not and then allowing the next player to give new lyrics to guess upon.)
-
Nope, not Sledgehammer.
(Cool about how you made this a sticky topic)
-
Are you Experienced by Jimi Hendrix?
-
Nope.
-
Walking On The Sun by Smashmouth
-
Yes, it is, MD.
-
Oh, my turn... I forgot to check back to make sure I was right. Here we go...
I have looked all over the place
But you have got my favorite face
Your eyelashes sparkle like gilded grass
And your lips are sweet and slippery like a cherub's bare wet ass
;D
-
Sounds sort of Lily Allen-ish. But that's the best guess I got.
-
Nice guess, but nope! She's not a new singer.
-
Hmmm. *thinks harder*
Missy Elliot?
-
*laughs* No.
-
*ponders*
Gwen Stefani?
-
No, but warmer. Around the same age.
-
Hmmmm So tempted to google!
Courtney Love?
-
Is this a Toby Keith song?
-
*pokes Haru* She said it's a "she" up there. *points*
Better not let Toby know you called him a girl! ;D
-
Not Courtney and not Toby.
Courtney is a good guess as far as general genre and being a peer of the artist in question.
-
Courtney as a peer? Yikes!
*ponders*
Britney Spears?
-
*sigh* No.
-
Great now Toby will be upset at me AND Ethan Hawke who wrote an article about him being an ass. :P
Is it Christina Aguilera, maybe her Fighter song?
-
Nope - she is a solo artist, but older than Britney & X-tina. She's about 40 - this song is from when I was in college, so... 1994-ish?
-
OK thinking maybe it's Madonna (I so lost count of her age).
-
Nope - Madonna is 50, I believe.
-
Hmmm OK that helps in aging pop stars...
Is it Nelly Furtado?
-
Nope. Maybe she's more obscure than I thought... a few more hints before we throw in the towel and I post some Britney lyrics? (ha)
She's American - from Chicago, I believe... this song was her biggest hit (she won a Grammy for it). Oh, she was a main stage Lilith Fair act.
Hope that helps!
-
Is it Melissa Etheridge?
-
lol - Nope. But I understand why you answered with a lesbian... Lilith Fair and all that. :P This artist is not a lesbian.
-
ROFL I wasn't even thinking that I swear!
OK is it Sheryl Crow?
-
No - but that's probably the closest guess so far. This woman wasn't as commercially successful as Sheryl Crow - but she's more of an indie label kinda chick.
Should we just throw in the towel and I'll post something different?
-
Argh I know I suck at this but I'll keep going until my time runs out! :P
Is it Dido then?
-
It sounds like Liz Phair. Could it be Supernova?
-
Yes.
-
Wow, I was just taking a wild guess with that one. Ok, so here's the new set of lyrics.
You could have steam train
if you'd just lay down your tracks
You could have an aeroplane flying
if you bring your blue sky back
-
Good stuff gals! Time for the Haru laughfest of guessing to recommence. :P
It is Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi?
-
Hehehe. Nope, it's not Joni Mitchell, Haru.
-
Is it the Blues Brothers?
-
Nope, try again.
-
Is it Jefferson Airplane maybe?
-
no.
-
Hmm gonna keep at this. Is it Peter Gabriel?
-
Yes, it is Peter Gabriel. Now can you tell me which song it is?
-
Yay partly right! I'm learning! I was between Steam or Sledgehammer. Is it either one?
-
Right on, Haru. It is indeed Sledgehammer. Your turn, dear.
-
WOOT!
OK here are the lyrics:
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below
The street heats the urgency of sound
As you can see theres no one around
-
I have NO clue, Haru. Is it a well known song?
-
It's a bit older but not too old, and the hint is the singer/band (won't give away yet which!) is still quite active today.
-
I peeked Haru
I just couldn't get it. I won't tell anyone but I would never have got it. I think you need to give a clue.
-
Alright another clue then. It IS a band, and as mentioned before, they're still active today in the music scene releasing music, but this song is from one of their older albums. Good luck!
-
Pffffft... that's not much of a clue. It narrows it down to about a gazillion options! Sheesh... how about genre or year release range or something like that? Or pick another one? *hopeful smile*
-
Hey I struggled to guess all the others so bear with me. ;D
OK another clue is that they mix genres but are generally rock. This song the lyrics are from has an awesome music video for it too, quite neat, almost nostalgic. Oh and the lead singer is a HOT guy IMHO. OK hope that helps! Give it a guess anyone!
-
Haru this is going on too long and I don't think anyone is going to get it....how about putting us out of our misery and trying another song?
Jane
xx
-
Sigh fine. It's 1979 by the Smashing Pumpkins. Guess the game is hit and miss. OK janey you knew what it was so give the next lyrics to guess. I'm away starting tomorrow for the weekend so it's not fair if I pick another set of lyrics and not be around to answer.
-
Aww Haru don't sigh like that *Hugs*
Anyway..ok the next lyrics
Its on America's tortured brow
that Micky mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'cause Lennons on sale again
See the mice in their million hoards
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother my dog and clowns
There..plenty to go at
Good luck
-
OK I won't *hugs back* I just dropped by one last time as I'm away on the Road again to my anime con! I'll be there until Sunday night so see you all upon my return.
For the sake of the game, I'll guess it's On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. :P
-
I'm guessing something by Lou Reed!
-
Sorry noble leader its not lou reed.....try again
-
Ok a clue
the singer is an English Megga Megga star and his first release was "The Laughing Gnome"
any good?
-
Hmmmm Doesn't help me but I'll guess Eric Clapton?
And what about Haru's previous guess of Willie Nelson? Although I'm sure he is not English!
-
Yeaaaah unless the English suddenly took over Southern USA. :P
I'll thus guess it's maybe Elton John?
-
Its Life on Mars by David Bowie am I correct Janey?
-
Yeahhh Andy...Life on Mars it was.
Over to you xx
-
Cool hmmmm what to put up.Aha got one
Cause i wonder where you are and i wonder what you do.
Are you somewhere feeling lonely or is someone loving you.
Tell me how to win your heart for I haven't got a clue.
But let me start by saying I Love you.
There you are good guessing all.
-
Is this Lionel Ritchie? Maybe his song Hello?
-
Ding ding we got a winner 1st guess.Yes indeed it is Hello by Lional Ritchie Haru
-
Yay no 200000 failures this time!
OK will try to pick something not too hard or easy...
OK how about this:
When I'm home ev'rything seems to be right,
When I'm home feeling you holding me
Tight, tight, yeh.
-
Is it the Beatles Hard Days night????
-
Yay you are correct janey! ^o^ Your turn for choice song!
-
Oh I'm really sorry everyone I gave the answer and then forgot to check it...I've been rather..er distracted over the last week.
Ok here goes
Regrets I've had a few
But then again too few to mention
(easy I think)
Good luck
-
Is it My Way by Frank Sinatra
-
Correcto Andy....over to you!

-

-
"I said to the man are you trying to tempt me. Because I come from the land of plenty?"

-
Going to give it to you Haru as techinaclly your answer the right one.
I come from a land Down Under by Men at Work.
Your go
-
Hmmmm OK let's see...OK let's try these lyrics:
Well, the bell hops tears keep flowin,
And the desk clerks dressed in black.
Well they been so long on lonely street
They aint ever gonna look back.
Good luck!

Remember the Time?
-
Nope ain't that one either DTM.Hmm okay second clue you keep thing in cl....
-
In the closet M Jackson!
(needed the last clue though - kind of embarrassed I knew that btw)
-
No need to be embrassed temptess and you were correct. In the closet was the song so its your turn to give us a tune.
-
Oh okey dokey.
"I would stand inside my hell and hold the hand of death".
-
Hmmmm No idea but I'll guess the band is AC/DC?
-
Ding! Incorrect but the Melbourne girl in me Grinned.
Btw I have tickets for the Melbourne concert *has invested in ear plugs and will be using the high stiletto heels of death to wiggle my way to the front*
Clue = The singer "shops around the corner"

[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej8H926Hmaw[url]
-
Andone? Next lyrics please.
-
Patience DTM good news I found one.
"Mother Superior Jump the Gun"
Waits to see who gets the answer.
-
Damn, I know the lyrics
I can't think who it is by and I know it will be embarrassing that I cant remember.
Only defence is my brother use to sing it (catholic school and all) and he kills all songs.
Makes everything sound like smoke on the water.
But I think Mother superior is a slang term for dope?
Black Sabbath?
-
Nope not Black Sabbath temptess.
Its is a british band though
-
Well I know for a fact it is NOT Hermans Hermits!
Iron Maiden?
-
Sorry not Iron Madien though Hermans Hermits are in the era of the group that did this song.
-
Ooooo! I almost guessed AC/DC until I saw British band. Tess would have hit me!
Is it Pink Floyd?
-
Nope not the Floyd DTM a bigger group then them.
-
Same era as Herman Hermits.
So we are talking 60's British Band and big.
Either the stones or the Beatles.
Going with the stones?
*lol btw yes I would have DTM*
-
Bigger then Floyd? In size or popularity?
I'll go with the Beatles since tess left it open. ;D
-
Correct DTM the Beatles now do you want to guess the song or skip and give us the next one?
-
Woot! First one I ever guessed correctly so I'll run with the next one.
Thanks tinks!!! *ducks*
Next lyrics.....
"And I miss America
And sometimes she does too.
And sometimes I think of her
When she is fucking you"
-
*mutters and laughs*
Good Catch DTM .....
But I still want to know the song Andone!
Interesting lyrics DTM...
NIN?
-
Nopers. Want a clue yet?
And now that the group is known I have cheated. The previous song was "Happiness is a Warm Gun" from the White album I think?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEMnAxSm6qQ
You're welcome. And no cheating on mine!
-
*mutters*
A Clue would be nice!!
(oh I should have known Andone Arghhhhhhh at choosing the Stones. Slaps self)
Ting tings?
-
Nopers.
Clue #1. Formerly a member of a very popular band before going solo.
-
mmmmmmm Robbie Williams
Even if it isn't mmmmm Robbie Williams *grins*
-
Nopers.
Clue #2. Is it just me or is it getting warm in here?
-
It's getting hot in here singer!
Feck what is his nameeeeeeee
Though was he ever in a band??? ....
Will think on this one!
-
Ummm Just to head off the thinking. Nopers. Not him.
Nelly - Hot in Here btw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RzRi-yaEJI&feature=PlayList&p=3E26B18857360708&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=16
I was thinking more subtlely then that. *grins*
-
Busta Rhymes!
Just getting warm??
-
Nopers.
Clue #3 - Not in the rap genre at all! (Though is has inevitably been sampled on all kinds of music)
-
Damn this is tough.
Your clues are hard.....
So far it is not rap ....and a solo artist who was in a well known band
Gene Simmons?
-
Nopers. Am I making it too hard? (That's what she said!)
Clue #4 - You and SFC have probably been accused of being what the former band's name was. At least by other people in the same room. *grins*
-
What Tarts??? *snorts*
The pop tarts singer?
-
Nope. More along the amount of communication going on between you two. I would presume anyways.
-
Oh OH OHHHHHHH
Talking Heads is the band????
Good Clue btw! (if it is right)
Very bad clue if it is wrong...
Bugger now I need the singer..
Will wait
-
Yay! You got it. I thought it was a great clue! *grins*
And it's David Byrne. The song is Miss America.
Your tune!
-
Well I didn't really get it.
But I am not proud!
New lyrics.......
I want your ugly
I want your disease
I want your everything
As long as it’s free
-
Hmmm No idea so I'll start with a SWAG.....
Is it AC/DC?
-
Yes! but No..........
AC/DC......is a clue. Not of the band of the singer of this song
Are they or are they.......
-
Okay well that just confuddles things! You call that a clue? *mutters*
I think I know what you meant but not how you phrased it.
George Michaels/ Wham?
-
AC/DC sexuality ambiguous
But you got the gist
and umm no.
Just been nominated for the Grammy Awards lost out at the AMA best new artist
-
*laughs* Now you're just telling me who it is!
Made all the news here for his "racy" live performance.
Adam Lambert!
-
Nope *grins*
Might have steered you in the wrong direction.......
even though "New" was ineligible for the Best new Artist
*waits for ticket*
-
Hmmmm
Okay next guess is Lady Gaga.....
She seems ambiguous about lots of things. *grins*
-
I'm so sad that I know that is Lady GaGa. *goes to google for proof of her penis*
-
Someone posted just to run the boards I think! How rude. I'd never do that. ;D
-
No one would do that! So against the intended use of this holy message board. ;D
-
Your turn.....
-
Woot! I got another one.
Next set of lyrics.....
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
-
No guesses? I thought this one was easy!
-
Well it would be ...........
If I had a boat..... ;D
Next One.........
Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be just as good
If you'd check off my Christmas list
Boo doo bee doo
-
Good guess! *grins*
*ponders*
Well I think the song is "Santa Baby". And if it is I've heard several versions of it.
-
I thought that song might be at least two guesses worthy, Dang it :D
Over to you, oh chastised Admin
-
Woot!
Next lyrics.....
Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Maybe it is life itself
That feeds wisdom to it's youth
-
Nada Zip Nothing ..........
Clue please
-
Silent Night? :P
-
No MD. ::)
Clue #1. One of my all time favorite songs. And she's a neighbor!
-
KD Lang.........Constant Craving.
Neighbour was a great hint!
Brilliant song
My turn...........
Ah, the moons too bright
The chains too tight
The beast wont go to sleep
Ive been running through these promises to you
-
*grins big*
I know this one!
Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man
Next lyrics.....
Wrong. Do it again.
Wrong. Do it again.
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?
-
It only takes an incredibly famous song... but I finally know one!
Pink Floyd - Another Brick in The Wall
Next lyrics...
I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied 'round their throats
-
Yay MD! ;D
I wasn't sure if the obscure lyrics from the end would register with anyone!
*ponders*
No idea who that is. My S.W.A.G. is Bruce Springsteen!
-
Nope - not even close. Although I don't know what S.W.A.G. means....
A hint - I do believe they are from your neck of the woods.
-
S.W.A.G. = Stupid Wild Ass Guess!
My neck of the woods? Like the Twilight loonies you mean? I'm tempted to move to Forks, WA where goo goo eyed goth teen girls go to check out the setting of Twilight. I'd make a good werewolf!
Hmmmm
Nirvana?
-
Nope.
Hint #2 -much more recent than Nirvana.
-
*Grins* @ Wolf and nods and nods.
Screaming Trees? but I think that was the same time as Nirvana?
-
Hmmm If tinks is wrong my guess is Evanescence
-
Nope and nope. Hmmm, maybe this song isn't as popular as I thought it was. I thought you guys were hip!
Hint #3 - they're style has been called "indie folk" and "baroque harmonic pop jams"
-
"Hip"? I'm worried I'm at the age where a reference to "hip" means I may have fallen and broken mine. ;D
Is it "She Wants Revenge"? Or are they a one hit wonder band?
-
No and no! :P
Hmmm... this song might not be popular enough.
Final hint - the song title has the current season in it.
-
Winter Wonderland?
White Christmas?
???
-
Oh Oh!!!!
White Winter Hymnal?????
by the fast foxes but I don't think they are from the Nirvana area? :(
-
Tough song to figure out...All I want for christmas is you?
-
Oh - sorry, I missed it.
Tinks is right - Winter White Hymnal by Fleet Foxes. They're based in Seattle.
So, Tinks is up!
-
Fleet Foxes? Never heard of em!
-
I didn't really get it right........
I said "Fast Foxes" *snorts* I really like their songs "Your Protector" and "He Doesn't Know Why"...must be the folk music girl in me....
Next Song
In the dark of the night
I can hear you callin my name
With the hardest of hearts,
I still feel full of pain
-
Is it Madonna's Like a Prayer?
-
No, Not Madonna.
More "noisy partying" than praying...
-
"Noisy Partying"?......
Evanescence?
-
Pink's Let's get this party started?
-
Oh man.... I think I know this! *thinks harder*
-
Not Evanescence.
But it is a band not a solo singer so no to Pink also
If it is any help *snorts* the lead singer is someone I would like in my pants...vvm
The "noisy partying" is a definition of the song title.
-
Is it Poison then?
-
Pearl Jam?
-
Totally confuzzled guys, I really need to go to your type of parties..........
Where poison and Pearl Jam (and I am taking the latter in a very naughty way) are used.
It is a literal definition of the song title.
The band is from Nashville, though the music is not country.
They are a right "Royal" band....
-
I am totally stumped.....
Oh. "Royal"?
Is it Kings of Leon?
-
It IS Kings of Leon! (At least I'm 99.99999% sure it is)
-
Nods to DTM and MD.......It is a Kings of Leon Song.........
Points to the title of the thread
"Name that Tune".... :P
Now If I was a certain type that would not allow a kink in the rules....
Not even once....
I wouldn't add the song title starts with the letter "R".......the clue noisy partying....
-
Revelry! *may have cheated a bit but not admitting to it* ;D
Going to presume I am correct and post the next lyrics.....
Do I have to tell the story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up getting wet
-
Easy, peasey, Japanesey!
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police
*does a victory dance*
-
You're celebrating your quickness? Poor hubby you have! ;D
But you are correct!
-
My apologies - it was brought to my attention that I'm slacking on posting lyrics for the next round. So without further ado...
Then later on, on the drive home
I called her mom from a pay phone
I said I was the cops and your husband's in jail
The state looks down on sodomy
:o
-
*blinks*
Ok ummmm is this Faith Hill?
-
lol - nope!
-
Alright...is it the Dixie Chicks? I'm pretty sure it's country music...which I suck at!
-
Whats my age again by Blink 182 ?
-
*laughing @ the lyrics last line ...
I have No idea btw but will watch with interest!

'How does it feel to be one of the beautiful People
Now that you know who you are
What do you want to be
And have you travled very far
Far as the eye can see

Here we go:
I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling
An earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And the four right chords can make me cry
When I'm with you I feel like I could die
And that would be all right
All right

I believe in the sand beneath my toes
The beach gives a feeling
An earthy feeling
I believe in the faith that grows
And the four right chords can make me cry

And that would be all right
All right

-
This one should be a bit easier than the last. :)
Like Kurasawa I make mad films
Okay, I don't make films
But if I did they'd have a Samurai
Gonna get a set a' better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
'Cause the cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing

-
Sweet, here's the next set of lyrics to guess the singer and/or the song for:
