Challenge to Artists
Since there are so many talented artists out there, I have decided to issue a challenge with a prize. Yes, I said prize and not just house points.
The challenge is to make a picture that will go on a mug featuring either Snape, Hermione, or Snape and Hermione.
The prize: I will purchase and ship to the winner one 11 oz mug with her design featured on it.
Where to upload your entry for judging: Entries should be uploaded into the "Artist Mug Challenge" folder in the Photos section. There is no limit to the number of entries per artist. Draw all the you want. A copy of the rules will be in the "Keket's Fan Fiction" folder in the fan fiction section.
Challenge Deadline: June 16th (Sunday at Midnight)
Judging: A poll will be set up and each member will be allowed to vote for her favorite picture. The picture with the most votes wins.
If there is a tie: a run off vote will be held in the polls.
The pole will close June 23rd (Sunday at Midnight).
The winner (if there is not a tie) will be announced June 24th (Monday).
Rules:
The design:
For all three possible designs:
Can be one scene that will wrap around the mug
Can be multiple scenes like a comic strip
Can just be superimposed pictures layered nicely
For Snape alone:
Slytherin Crest must be used (can be large or small)
Background could include: books, potions bottles, cauldrons, torches, parchment, inkwells, the dungeon backdrop, quills. (not all or any of these background items are necessary – I'm just giving ideas)
For Hermione alone:
Griffindor Crest must be used (can be large or small)
Backgrounds could include: books, Crookshanks, parchments, quills, inkwells. (not all or any of these background items are necessary – I'm just giving ideas)
Snape and Hermione together:
Keep it clean. This is something that needs to be able to sit on a desk where even the HR people can see it.
Backgrounds: see above.
Colors:
Can be in color, black and white, or sepia (I like the old timey look). Sepia or black and white with just a few things colored normally is also fine.
For color pictures:
Snape alone: Green, silver, and black should dominate.
Hermione alone: Red and gold should at least be in the picture.
Severus/Hermione: Eh, have fun.
Size: (This is very important!)
3 inches by 8.33 inches.
7.62 centimeters by 21.1582 centimeters. Call it 7.5 cm by 21 cm.
Words:
For Snape alone: Use some snarky comment of his or something he would say... or something about Slytherins. I love the "Slytherinside" quote someone made a long while back.
For Hermione alone: Something about being studious would be nice.
For Severus/Hermione: Anything goes, I suppose. See the buttons archive for some ideas. I personally love the, "I'll have what she's having"
Suggestions for phrases are welcome from everyone and anyone.
Do Nots:
Sexuality can be implied but no nudes. This is a mug that I want to be able to set on my desk at work without freaking out the HR people too much. If someone wants to do nudes, that is fine but it won't qualify to be judged for the prize. I will happily look at them though.
I would like original art. As much as most of us love Alan Rickman as Snape, do not use an image of him on your entry. You are free to think of him as your model for Snape but no actual photos of him. I also do not want to get into any possible copyright infringement when I order the mugs. I have checked and original artwork is acceptable.
Format:
Entries may be done in ink, pencil, oils, pastels, or be computer generated (pretty much anything). The only thing I ask is that they are scanned at a very high resolution (at least 300 dpi) so that when I send the winner to the mug company, it will generate the best possible quality print. The size (when printed) cannot exceed the SIZE stated in the rules above. Please save in .jpg format.
The prize:
The winner will be posted on list and notified via e-mail. If that person will kindly send me a mailing address privately, I will order that person a mug and have it shipped to her. I will also post the place to order when the contest is over in case anyone else would like to order their own mug.

-Who would like to request at least one person to make an entry that uses a style similar the drawings that feature the Snape from the commercial drawings. I'd just like to see it and it would be a valid entry. I love that Snape.
