Pet Peeves in amateur photos
Posted by Benevolent Goddess on April 25, 2008 at 9:46pm in The Masque Photography

I have a laundry list of things I hate to see in this new era of photography - the do it yourself "art" or "porn" but one thing makes me crazy.

My biggest ever pet peeve is people who don't take care to set the photo up before snapping the picture. I see so many that are obviously posed, but neither photographer or model bothered to look around for things that don't belong in a the picture. I see playpens, empty beer cans, even laundry in the backgrounds of photos and it drives me INSANE. It's just lazy, I think. I so wish people would look at the whole picture instead of just the subject when taking photos that will be shown outside of their own homes.

What makes you crazy?

I couldn't agree more BG, and it is so easy to make a good picture. Well, let 's say a better picture. Just clean up your act/house, then start shooting. I rather have 200 pics to choose from and 1 good one out of it. Then I can easily dump the other 199. Also, I hate it when I later see the straps and or wires from a bra or the elastics from any slip marked on any skin. Give it time, just give it time to really relax.

You can't understand it today with digital photography you can look at your picture and retake it if required. But you still get the problem of people not looking at the whole picture,
In the days of roll film my husband ran a photographic society and one of the tests he used to set for members was to go out and take a set number of good pictures that did not need editing on one roll of film.

It was surprising just how many could not do it.
Now with digital no one has the excuse for taking a bad picture, so take a careful look at what you have just taken and shoot it again so that it looks good, no one likes looking at badly taken pictures.

i have learned the hard way as well, to at least have a clean area to shoot in..it doesn't always work...specially when a cat creeps into the shot and takes center stage with glowing eyes...but hey, i'm still learning!

oh how i agree with that. Of course i learned about this the hard way, with one too many beer cans (or other less desirable objects) in the background of my snapshots. I would die if my "posed" shots showed such lack of style and or intelligance
